Robert
W. Bird, age 79, of Harborcreek, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010 at his
residence.He was born in Erie on June 19, 1930, son of the late Kenneth and Mona Bird. Robert was first employed as a carpenter and then worked at General Electric Co. until his retirement. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed square dancing with his wife. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of American Legion Post #105 in North East. He was preceded in death by two children, Kenneth Bird and Janet Weber and one brother, George. Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Smith Bird; four children, Christine Bird Hall (Phillip) of Harrisville, Pa., Nancy Brown (Richard) and Robert Bird (Gloria) all of Erie, and Richard Bird (Bernadette) of McKean; two brothers, Charles Bird (Eleanor) and Terry Bird (Betty); six sisters, Betty Sheets, May Gross (Robert), Carol Wygant (Jack), Kay Bird, Ruthann Dunkle (Keith) and Diana Bird; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral was handled by Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., Laid to rest with a full military service at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery conducted by North East American Legion Post #105. |
