Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mary DeWolf Bennett of Erie, two daughters, Melissa Sinko and her husband, Jason of Frederick, Md., Heather Bennett of Erie, two sons, Eric Bennett of Erie, Michael Bennett and his wife, Ali of Silver Spring, Md., his mother, Mary Bennett, a sister, Clara Kaus of Waterford, Pa. and three brothers, Ira, John and Steven Bennett all of Erie. Also survived by six grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter.
Larry rests in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.

God saw you were getting tired,
And a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you
And whispered, "Come to me."
With tearful eyes we watched you
And saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating.
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

Memories

Larry was like a brother to me. Growing up next door we shared everything.
Birthdays were special, being 24 days apart we celebrated them together most years.
When he met the love of his life I knew he was in good hands.
We haven't seen much of each other except "hello" from across the street or "hey how you doing" when meeting somewhere.
Hearing that he passed away brought a tear to my eye. But then the optimist that I am, I know he isn't really gone.
He is watching down from above and keeping his family safe.
Hope he keeps a door open for me someday.

He will always have a place at Life Ever After

To the Bennett family, and extended family,

I have a lot of memories in the Bennett household growing up, all of which were fun times.  They were always like a second family to me, and always inviting.  The kind of family everyone should have.  No memory will ever be forgotten.

Much love and prayers.

With Love from his children:

I think everyone knows the saying "you can't be all things to all people" but in Larry Bennett's case; he was.

Everyone knew Larry as someone who cared for everyone.

He was the loving husband, the father, the friend, the grandpa, the uncle, the son. He was the babysitter, the soccer dad, the mechanic, the baker, the sewer, the carpenter, the repairman, the chef, the musicman, the hairdresser.

He was the husband who surprised his wife with a Chevy Suburban on Christmas eve, just because she wanted a bigger car after years of Chevettes and Punchbugs.

He was the soccer Dad who packed that Suburban to take all the kids to the game; whether it be soccer, baseball, or basketball, to support from the sidelines.

He was the mechanic who on I-79 on the way back from Penn State, when the muffler fell off that very same Suburban, affixed it back on with just duck tape and a coat hanger.

He was the man who saved the lives of two ladies who were stuck on the railroad tracks just because their car would not start and they needed a helping tow.

He was the father who drove out to the mall to start the car who's battery failed on a son's first date.

He was the man who on Christmas came to start a car, once again, for a truck-full of gifts when a tire fell off.

He was the repairman who fixed many windows that were busted out by pop flies and home runs from backyard baseball games.

He was the man who after working a 10-hour day, came home to put a new roof on the house, shingle by shingle by shingle, just because it needed it.

He was the carpenter who made many stepstools and bookcases, and even little hearts out of wood for valentine's day. Many of our homes have his shadowboxes in them.

He was the romantic who always had hugs and kisses for everyone. Even when he was sick he mustered up enough strength to lean forward and kiss his wife -- many times.

He had a way to make everyone laugh with silly jokes.

He was the grandpa who loved to teach his grandchildren the alphabet and their 1, 2, threes.

He was a gentle hearted man who many strived to imitate.

Yes, he was the same man who had the biggest Christmas tree because his children got such joy from it. The same man who would have done anything and everything for the love of his life, Mary. The man who is probably doing the camel walk in heaven. The man who wanted to make it big with the lottery; who did, in fact, make it big with his life, with his loved ones, with his family, even with strangers.

The man whom we will all sorely miss.

The man who knew "God is Love".

May God rest your soul. We will all miss you abundantly.

Who has the right words to say?
I love my uncle and cherish the memories of his good heart.
I wrote this last evening as I wandered home in the snow, Easter Snow

Spring snow is a strange thing.
I walked into the cold wind, snow flying into my face and covering me as I walked, but it never made a sound.
The wind whipped and wailed and cried,
But the snow at once attached itself to me and fled by me in silence.
So it is with Time.

Life flies by in a fury of light and sound, but Time slips by so quietly...
Life is made of laughter and whispers, singing and speeches, triumphant cries,
 and alas, weeping.

Yet Time, unstoppable, marches to the cadence of a silent drummer, never pausing in its hushed journey. Still, if it ever were to speak, it would cry out in a moment such as this...here now in the midst of the storm...Here now while our hearts are aching at the loss of a beloved man. He has been a son, a free spirit, a brother, a romantic, a husband, a dreamer, a father, a friend, a grandfather, and oh so much more...

His music has now been stilled in this life, but it rings out in the next. And it plays always in our hearts. And for us Time does seem to stop and break its silence.

Time marks his passing with a heavy sigh, a bridge in the music, but not a sigh of resignation. It is a sigh of longing, an echo of the desire in each of us for one more day, one more smile, one more hug, one more whisper, one more laugh.

Alas, this cannot be so, and having sighed, Time moves forward carrying us through the days of our grief. It moves forward but leaves us a silent, precious gift in its wake - Memory. We can rejoice in the moments we shared with him, whether they be drops and snatches of giggling and gladness, or pieces and snippets of trials and tenderness.

The snow attaches to me without a sound today, each tiny flake a crystal memory...

My heart goes out to Mary Grace and her children. I know what it is to loose your love.
I knew Larry and his family all his life from living next door.
He grew up to be a wonderful man and I am sure a loving father and husband.
Sorry to hear the news.
