Chet was born Aug. 8, 1925, in Sharpsburg, son of the late Chester W. Shoop Sr. and Ida Mae Fix Shoop.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He also was a member of the 33rd Signal Construction Co. Battalion Re-enactors.
He was an industrial engineer, retiring from Emco-Wheaton in Wilson, N.C., in 1990.
He previously worked at Lovell Manufacturing in Erie, Rusco Industries in Meadville and Worthington in Oil City.
During retirement, he operated an e-commerce business and was employed at Wolverine Park Marina.
He served a decade as secretary of the Erie S.C.O.R.E. Chapter 193. He was selected by the American Institute for Public Service as the local representative for the National Jefferson Awards in Washington, D.C., in 1999. He was named U.S. Small Business Administration's S.C.O.R.E. volunteer of the year in 2000.
He was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Erie. He was past secretary of Presque Isle Beagle Club; past master and member of Oil City Lodge 710 F. & A.M.; past monarch and member of Acacia Grotto in Oil City; a member of Erepa Grotto and the Scottish Rite, Valley of New Castle; and a former member of the Pipes and Drums of Erepa Grotto.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Esper Shoop.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Anna Jean Duarte Shoop; a daughter, Robin M. Kunz and her husband, Al, of Erie; a son, Mike
"Lou Baxter'' Shoop of Meadville; four sisters, Margaret Jayne Rhoades of President, Betty Schaefer of Medina, Ohio, Mary Elizabeth Klinger of Franklin and Naomi Goodwill of Oil City; and six grandchildren, Tara, Joshua, Adam and Brandon Shoop and Jessica and Kelli Kunz.
Friends stopped by to pay their respects on Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Merle E. Wood Funeral Home, 215 W. 25th St. Perry-Keystone Lodge 392 F&AM conducted a service there Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Friends attended a service at the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Hal Shafer of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church officiating.
Chet was laid to rest at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
Memorials were made to Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 3520 Perry St., Erie, PA 16504.

Chapter 193 and an excellent counselor and wonderful friend. After a month long bout with Pneumonia and Congestive Heart Failure, Chet left us.
